Thanksgiving 2024, Sarah’s grandparents lost their home to a fire caused by a compromised chimney. Decades of heirlooms, handmade quilts, jewelry, and every childhood photo album were gone, along with their sense of normalcy.

Because they had always done things the old-fashioned way, their memories lived in prints and on a single desktop that would never turn on again.​

Then came the plot twist no one saw coming. Years earlier, almost as an afterthought, Sarah had loaded thousands of their photos onto a thumb drive, tucking it away and almost forgetting it existed. Over 7,000 images of faces, holidays, celebrations and ordinary afternoons, somehow, still existed. That one small act, five years in the past, became the thread that helped stitch their sense of self back together.

For their 65th wedding anniversary, the family printed those images and rebuilt their photo albums page by page. “We feel like we got a part of our life back,” Grandma Dooley said. “I never thought I would get to see photos of my parents again.”​
